Nissan Windshield Wiper Systems FAQ

What Parts Make Up the Windshield Wipers on a Nissan?

A wiper motor, a pair of wiper arms, wiper blades, a windshield washer pump, and a switch to get things moving, often one that uses a fuse and (sometimes) a relay. How a system works is the arms pivot on the end nearest the motor; with help from windshield washer fluid that a pump sprays from its reservoir, the blades can then clear your windshield of muck and debris.

The most common wiper blades are conventional, beam, and hybrid; the most common connectors, either hook, clamp, or pin. Conventional wiper blades, made of rubber or sometimes silicone and attached to a basic metal frame, are ideal for everyday driving; solid-rubber beam wiper blades are more closely conformable to windshield contours and last longer, and hybrid wiper blades work like beam, but for having rubber-coated metal frames that are more versatile and weather-resistant.

What are the Signs the Wiper Blades on a Nissan Need Replacing?

Squeaks, chattering, and leaving streaks while they run, cracking rubber, failing blade adhesive (i.e., the blades coming off the wiper arms), and bent or broken frames. You can DIY replacement yourself, sometimes for less than the $70 to $90 on average that RepairPal estimates the job might run you at a Nissan service center.
